Miminiska Lake Map

Click here to print full-sized maps! The Albany River watershed, including Miminiska Lake, is one of the greatest remote fishing areas in Canada. Spectacular Walleye and Northern Pike fishing abounds in the 15,000 acres of varied and exciting waters, while world-class Brook Trout fishing can be found in the numerous fast-moving rivers. Our experienced native guides know the waters like the back of their hand, and where the monster Pike and trophy sized Walleye can be found. Guides are an option on Miminiska Lake, but are a requirement if travelling on any of the fast water rivers or outlying lakes.

Great afternoon fishing can be found just 3 or 4 miles to the West of Miminiska Lodge where the Keezhik & Troutfly Rivers converge and flow into Miminiska Lake. The mouths of these rivers provide good action for Walleye and Northern Pike.

For early morning or evening fishing, the mouth of the Ferguson River between the first set of rapids and the lake is a great spot for both Walleye and Pike. As well, there is some spectacular Pike fishing in nearby Ferguson Bay.

Another river mouth and more great Walleye and Northern Pike fishing. The Wottam River produces some impressive catches - a great spot for getting your lunch fish!

For those adventurous fishermen, try a small portage to Wottam Lake for fast action for both Walleye and Northern Pike.

The outlet of Miminiska Lake into the Albany River leads to one of the most picturesque places on the entire water system. Miminiska Falls is about 1 mile East of the lake. The fishing is great - but don't go too far! The Falls plunge for 30 feet in a series of spectacular whitewater rapids.

The Petewanga Portage is a half-mile portage trail around Miminiska Falls, and allows for some great fishing both upriver to the falls and down river into Petewanga Lake. Several boats and motors are kept down river of the falls for guest use.

Petewanga Lake has excellent Walleye and Northern Pike fishing. Try the sandbar at the inlet to Petewanga Lake for Walleye 3 pounds and up. Just around the corner on the North side is a bay that consistently produces 15+ pound Northerns.

The Snake Falls area is one of the most productive Speckled Trout sections of the entire Albany River system. In addition to the 3-5 pound Brook Trout, you can catch Walleye, Northerns and Whitefish in the numerous pools.

Upriver from Snake Falls to the Lower Eskakwa Falls is another great Brook Trout area. A small portage and transfer to a 14 foot boat and motor leads to more spectacular fishing. A guide is needed to fish in this area.

The upper Eskakwa Falls marks the end of the journey upriver, where you'll tire your arms with more trophy fishing for world class sized Specks. To give your arms a break, fish a few of the back pools for Walleye and Whitefish.

The Walleye Mine has the area's fastest Walleye fishing. It's about 12 miles East of the lodge at the mouth of the Albany River. The mixing of the cold Albany water with the warmer Miminiska Lake waters makes this one of the most popular feeding spots for both Walleye and trophy Northern Pike. The current is very strong here, and we suggest 3/8 oz. yellow jigs.

The West Arm is our top Northern Pike producer. There are dozens of small islands and bays here which provide excellent habitat and great action for large Northerns. Either trolling or casting gives great results.
